The Clywedog Valley
The Clywedog Valley near Wrexham makes a great day out. There are attractions, events and activities, walks and nature trails, picnic spots, childrens play areas and much, much more!
To find the Clywedog Valley approach Wrexham on the A483 or A525 and follow the brown Clywedog tourist signs. Individual attractions are also signed.
The Clywedog Trail - For the energetic, the waymarked Trail can make an interesting days walk from Minera to Kings Mill - a distance of nine miles, following the meandering River Clywedog. There are shorter circular walks and picnic spots at individual sites along the Trail.
Starting at the village of Minera the Trail runs through Minera Country Park. With rolling countryside, a picnic area and spectacular views you wont want to leave to go to Nant Mill, where there are nature trails and a sensory garden planted with sweet smelling herbs and flowers- a particular delight for those with sight impairment. The Trail then passes through the peaceful Plas Power Woods and on to Bersham Ironworks. A short distance further is Bersham Heritage Centre where drinks and ice cream can be purchased. The Trail continues to Erddig where the trail and formal gardens are surrounded by parkland and woods. Passing through Erddig Country Park the end of the trail is reached at Kings Mill. The mill, built in 1770 can be pre-booked for school and group visits. There are displays on the history of the mill and a working water wheel. Contact Bersham Heritage Centre for details. There are cycle tracks at Minera Country Park and at Erddig Country Park for enjoyable rides through peaceful countryside. The Clywedog Trail is an environmentally protected area, and as such it is important that cyclists stay on the designated cycle tracks.
